There has been a change in the Longhorn football schedules now available in Payson High School offices.
Copies show that a controlled scrimmage was planned for 7 p.m., Aug. 30 on PHS field against Phoenix Christian.
That scrimmage has been changed to 2 p.m. Aug. 31 at the Round Valley High School dome in Eager. The Longhorns' opponent will be Monument Valley rather than Phoenix Christian.
Payson coach Steve Saban said he did not know the reasons for the late schedule change other than there was possibly some mix-up between the schools involved.
The Horns will open the regular season at 7 p.m., Sept. 6, when the St. Johns Redskins visit the Rim country.
Due to Arizona Interscholastic Association regulations, practices for the season cannot begin until Aug. 12. However, Saban has slated a football camp for prospective freshmen, jayvee and varsity players to be held 3:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m., Aug. 5 to 9 on the new multipurpose field at Rumsey Park.
Although the camp is voluntary, Saban is encouraging all Longhorn hopefuls to participate.
