P-S Students Head Back To Class

Shining young faces wearing spiffy new school clothes and toting brand new backpacks filled with colored pencils, clean new notebooks and binders have once again turned up at the elementary school to scout the territory.

If you as a parent or a resident would like to meet the teachers, then jot down 6 p.m. Thursday Aug. 15 on your calendar. This is the traditional Celebrate School night in the school gym. It serves as a welcome to students, parents and residents.

It is the first of many opportunities for adults to garner a glimpse into the student world in Pine-Strawberry.

The P-S School Governing Board holds its meetings at 4 p.m. the second Tuesday of each month in the conference room. This month that is Aug. 13. Everyone is welcome and agendas are posted in the post office prior to the meeting.

If you have a preschooler at home, you should contact the school for information on the preschool program. Screening will be Tuesday, Aug. 6, during the school day.

Call 476-3283 for more information.

For those students who will be participating in any of the sports programs at the P-S school, sports physicals are mandatory. At 1 p.m., Wednesday, Aug. 7, the Pine-Strawberry Medical Center will be completing the physicals at the school for a fee of $15.

This money is donated back to the school sports program, a grand opportunity for students and the school. That is a 1 p.m. dismissal day, so students will need to make other arrangements to get home.

Fire restrictions lifted

Because of recent rain, the Pine-Strawberry Fire Department lifted the special hazard restrictions. You can now run your power equipment and welding torches, fire up the charcoal grill and sit around an outdoor warming fire.

Residents are urged to use caution as the forest is still dry and we have not yet reached a measurable two-inches of rain.

The department will not be issuing burn permits until the area receives more rain.
