The teams of Larry Baker/Harvey Baker and John Calderwood/Armand Werle played their way to first-place laurels in the Payson Men's Golf Association's two-man scramble tournament July 31 at Payson Golf Course.
The Bakers claimed honors in the first flight finishing with a net score of 64.7.
Calderwood and Werle tallied a 69.1 to win the second flight.
In the scoring format, 10 percent of the combined handicap determined the total handicap of each team.
Trailing the Bakers in the first flight were Jim Dalgleish and his anonymous partner.
The silver-medal duo tallied a 65.5. With a 65.7, Syd Gee and Roger Poole teamed up for third-place honors.
In the second flight, Don Nicholas and Tom Mallet copped second by carding a 72.4. Tom Eaglesham and Dean Bulkey's 73.3 was good enough for third.
Bulkey also shined in the closest-to-the-pin competition, finishing just 5 feet, 7 inches shy of an ace on No. 8. .
Other players who pocketed closest-to-the-pin prize money included Larry Baker (No. 14: 7 feet, 7 inches), Bud Drummond (No. 5; 11 feet, 9 inches), Armand Werle (No. 17, 16 feet, 4 inches) and Ralph Lindo (No. 2, 16 feet, 4 inches).
Next up for the PMGA is one of its biggest tournaments of the summer season.
The annual PMGA Club Championship tournament tees off at 8 a.m. tomorrow (Wednesday) at PGC.
Action wraps up in the championship Aug. 14.
Aug. 21, the PMGA is slated for an interclub meet at Beaver Creek.
