Nelson Turner, 89, of Young died Aug. 5, 2002.
Mr. Turner was a second-generation Arizona native, his mother having been born at Fort Thomas.
After Mr. Turner married his wife, Bessie, they moved to Phoenix to raise a family. After retirement, they moved back to Young. He built a house next to the house where he grew up.
He was active in community affairs as well as acting as a deacon in the Young Baptist Church the second oldest Baptist Church in Arizona.
Mr. Turner was preceded in death by his son, Bill Turner. He is survived by his wife of more than 65 years, Bessie; daughters Georgia Deltenre of Mesa, Marjorie Blanchard of Ahwatukee and Frances Boccardo of Tucson, 12 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren; his sister, Wiona Trobough of Globe and his brothers, Henry Turner of Kearny and Laurence Turner of Kingman; numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held at the Messinger Payson Funeral Home from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m., Friday, Aug. 9. Memorial services will be in Young at 11 a.m., Saturday, Aug. 10.
