Everyone in Tonto Village is gearing up for our big Labor Day Weekend fund-raiser Aug. 31.
The events are for the benefit of the Tonto Village Fire District Auxiliary. The auxiliary helps the firefighters in purchasing new equipment and helps pay for fire school.
This year, 15 volunteers will be going to the Fire Marshal's Fire School in Mesa. The auxiliary will help pay for the rooms for three days for the volunteers.
There will be a barbecue dinner served from noon on, a bake sale, a Kids 'n Kritter costume parade, followed by an ATV decorated parade, free ice cream at the firehouse for the children, a cupcake walk and back by popular demand, "The Chicken Drop."
We are trying something new this year. The Village firefighters will be volunteering their time for a Casino Fun Day. They will start with instructions on how to play blackjack, roulette and craps starting at 2 p.m. The actual games will start at 3 p.m. The winners will be given raffle tickets for each win and then the tickets will be drawn for prizes.
All the activities will take place on the patio at the Double D Restaurant and additional parking will be available at the Tonto Village Chapel.
If you would like to help make this a great day for all, and volunteer to help, please contact the fire station at 478-4875.
If you would like to donate baked goods, call Carol Fulp at 478-4839.
Fire Chief J.R. Alliger needs e-mail addresses from all his volunteer firefighters in the district so that he can send notices of meetings, schooling for fire fighters, etc. If you have an e-mail address, please e-mail it to email@example.com. The next fire school will be on Sept. 6, 7 and 8.
The hand-held CB radio has yet to be claimed. Please identify it and come and pick it up.
There will be a "village wide" yard sale in Tonto Village next Friday and Saturday, Aug. 16 and 17. One of the houses participating in Tonto Village III will be for the benefit of the Tonto Village Fire District Auxiliary. We need donated items, please call Diane Ham at 478-4044 if you have any items that you would like to give to the auxiliary.
There will be signs on each house that will be participating in this giant yard sale. So come on out.
Marianne Dunlop from Ellison Creek, was pleasantly surprised Aug. 2. It was her 70th birthday and her family decided to surprise her with a party at the Double D Restaurant. About 25 members of her family showed up to celebrate with her.
Happy birthday, Marianne!
If I have missed your birthday or anniversary, or any special event, please call me at 478-4606.
