Irvin Swenson, 79, of Payson, died Aug. 11, 2002. He was born at Werner, N.D. March 16, 1923, to Hans and Emma Swenson.
As a young man, he was in the U.S. Army and farmed the family homestead.
He married Helen M. Hausauer in Dunn Center, N.D. June 6, 1954. Together, they raised three children.
Mr. Swenson was the owner of the Standard Oil Service Station in Halliday, N.D. He then moved his family to Payson in 1972, when he purchased the Diamond Dart Motel. After nine and a half years, he retired and built a home in Payson.
He was a husband, father and grandfather. There wasn't anything he couldn't fix. He enjoyed playing cards and pool with his wife, family and friends. He also loved to collect different things he purchased at yard sales and auctions.
Survivors include his wife, Helen; daughters, Candice (Jeff) Lutz and Nola Mae Mock; grandchildren, Crystal (Shannon) Sickler, Cynthia LaPierre, Clayton (Brenda) LaPierre, Garrett and Quentin Lutz, Cody Mills, Taylor and Dylan Mock; great-grandchildren Christopher and Emilie Sickler, Tate LaPierre, Shad, Shawna and Shanise Fredericks; sisters, Esther Pedersen, Ruth (Ray) Stotz and Inez (George) Smith; many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, two sisters and his son, Jeffrey H. Swenson.
Visitation will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 15 at Messinger Payson Funeral Home.
Graveside service to follow at Mountain Meadows Memorial Park.
