By a single stroke, Laura Meyocks edged past Marge Landra for the gold medal in a Payson Women's Golf Association tournament held Aug. 6 at Payson Golf Course.
Entered in the first flight, Meyocks tallied a 33 and Landra a 34.
The tournament format included scoring "odd or ever holes picked before play," PWGA member Alesha Calderwood said. One-half the player's handicap was subtracted from the holes selected.
In the second flight, Lucy Maish finished at 36.5 to win the gold medal. Gerry Quissenberry was runner-up with a 38.5.
Calderwood took closest-to-the-pin honors on holes No. 5 and No. 17.
In an 18-hole low-net formatted tournament July 30, Kay Davis played her way to an A flight win. Landra was second.
In B flight, Ruth Overton finished first and Glenda Cook was second.
Wilma Smith took the C flight gold by outplaying silver medalist Dorothy Meek.
Once again, Calderwood was closest-to-the-pin winner swatting to within 3 feet, 5 inches of No. 8. On No. 14, Meyocks won by hitting her tee shot to within 14 feet, 2 inches of the hole.
