Late-Breaking News: 25-Acre Forest Fire


A forest fire believed to be started by lightning northeast of Payson Thursday night had reached 25 acres by 10:30 a.m. Friday.

Located north of the community of Washington Park in the Kehl Ridge area, the fire is burning in "really rough country" according to Stanton Florea, public information officer for the Tonto National Forest.

Both ground and helicopter crews are battling the blaze which is expected to move west.

No people or buildings are threatened by the blaze, according to Florea.

The smoke plume from the fire was visible from Payson Friday morning.
