During past seasons, only members of the local Elks lodge were permitted to participate in the weekly Elks' bowling league.
The league, however, has now been renamed "Elks and Friends" and is open to any bowler who would like to participate, league secretary Lynn Furimsky said.
For those interested in competing, the league will be hosting an organizational meeting at 6 p.m. Aug. 27, in the Elks Lodge on Airport Road.
According to Furimsky, local bowlers can make up their own teams to enter into the league or individuals can be placed on teams by officials.
Play in the league begins at 6:30 p.m. Sept. 3, at Rim Country Lanes, formerly Payson Bowl, and continues each Tuesday evening for 32 weeks.
With new owners Julie Ann and Bob Baker overseeing the proceedings at the local lanes, "everyone is really excited about the new season," Furimsky said.
In addition to the Elks league, several other fall leagues are currently registering players.
