The countdown is on, only hours left to wait for our Labor Day Bash, Saturday, Aug. 31. It will start off with a pit barbecue dinner at noon, followed by a Kids N Kritter parade, along with a decorated quad parade and the fire chief will be showing off our fire equipment and our EMT director, Darlane Leonard will be demonstrating the equipment used in medical rescue.

There will be a chicken drop with Jimmy Rabbit's talented chickens, a cupcake walk for the children, and casino-type gaming sponsored by the Valley Firefighters of Phoenix starting at 2 p.m. All of this fun will help the Auxiliary to the Fire District to assist the volunteer firemen to go to fire school in Mesa next month. You will be helping them out with your donations plus having a bunch of fun besides. Come on out to have a great day of entertainment in the patio area of the Double D Restaurant.

Speaking of the Double D Restaurant, the Double D summer bowling league recently won first place in the summer competition league at the Payson Bowling Alley. Trophy winners include Danny and Ethel Cain, Steve and Sandy Human, and George Saba. Congratulations to all the winners.

Get Well Wishes

Danny Cain is recovering nicely from his quad mishap a few weeks ago. He will be as good as new in a week or two. He wants to thank everyone for all the moral support the people in the Village have given to him.

Pool sharks

Tuesday, Aug. 27, was ladies pool night with a different twist. The ladies decided to dress up in overalls to play their 9-ball tournament. It must have been a big help for Linda Stailey she won top honors. Phyllis Mullen came in second and Betty Koutz took third place. Who knows what the next costume idea will be?

Sunday winners for the 8-ball tournament were Earl Randelman, Ethel Cain and Doug Paul. Congratulations to all the winners.

Birthdays

Linda Digman and her daughter Trina will be lighting double birthday candles on their cakes this week, their birthdays are only one day apart, Aug. 29 and 30. Jan Davenport will celebrate her big day Aug. 31. Happy birthday to anyone I have not mentioned. Call me with your birth date and I will be glad to add your big day to my list.
