After serving as host of several local tournaments that drew participants from around Central Arizona, the Payson Mens Golf Association finally played the role of invited guest.
About 25 club members traveled to Beaver Creek near Camp Verde Aug. 23, where they participated in a dual match.
For Payson, John Pauley finished with a 73 to win low-gross honors in the first flight. In the second flight, Dick Ceyler finished first with a tally of 91.
In the low-gross scoring, Dick Harding edged runner-up Syd Gee for the gold medal in the first flight. Harding finished at 69 and Gee had a 70.
In the second flight, Ward Johnson claimed the low-net crown with a 65. Armand Werle was second, tallying a 67.
Although closest-to-the-pin honors were given on Beaver Creek's par 3 holes, the Payson players were not among the winners.
"They had some temporary greens there that hurt our putting but that's no excuse," PMGA member Bud Drummond said. "We just had one of those days."
Next up for the PMGA is a mixed tournament today (Friday) at Payson Golf Course.
Sept. 4 and 11, members travel to the White Mountains for clashes against Silver Creek and Pinetop Country Club.
