A two-car collision on Highway 87 at Roundup Road caused a delay in Santa’s arrival for the annual Christmas lighting program at the Swiss Village.
The accident, Nov. 30, at 6:04 p.m., did not involve Santa, but his transportation: a Payson Fire Department truck.
Fire truck EP121 responded to the two-vehicle accident, delaying Santa’s appearance at the lighting program for about 35 to 40 minutes, according to a spokesman at the fire department.
The collision occurred when a sedan exited Roundup Road to turn north onto Highway 87. Dale McCoy, 64, of Strawberry, was headed south, and the two vehicles collided.
There were two juveniles in the sedan and one adult, Alexander McNabb, 19. All three were injured, with one juvenile requiring air transportation to the Maricopa County Medical Center. McNabb and the other juvenile were transported by ambulance to Payson Regional Medical Center.
The accident is still under investigation.
