Kockas Celebrate 60 Years


Celebrating their 60th wedding anniversary on Thanksgiving Day, Nov. 28, 2002, were Jim and Mary Kocka of Strawberry. They were married in Chicago.

During World War II, Jim served with the Black Horse Troop in Europe. Recently, Jim was honored by receiving the Croix de Guerre Award from France.

The Kockas have been members of the Payson Senior Citizens Center, founders of the Pine-Strawberry Senior Citizens Center, members of St. Philip’s Catholic Church. Mary was a secretary of the Payson Seniors morning bowling league.

In 1977, Jim retired from Courtesy Chevrolet and Mary retired from the Arizona State Compensation Fund and in 1978, they moved to Strawberry after selling their cabin at Ellison Creek.

Prior to that, they had lived in Phoenix since 1952, and were members of St. Francis Xavier Parish.

Joining them in celebrating this occasion were daughters, Mary Jane Jasin and husband, Tom, of Lancaster, Penn., and Christine Weglarz and husband, Walt, of Phoenix, and their six grandchildren, Jill, Staci, Claire, James, Julie and Sara.
