Pes Students Learn Safety First

The first in a series of Safety First presentations was held on the Payson Elementary School playground last week.

Students moved from one station to the next viewing emergency equipment and listening to presentations on such topics as when and how to use 911, bicycle and skateboard safety, sidewalk safety, household safety and seat belts at the event sponsored by the Mogollon Health Alliance.

PES kindergartners received free bicycle helmets at a Safety First presentation held last week on the school playground. The giveaway kept kindergarten teacher Lisa Chesebro busy adjusting her students’ new headgear.

Participants included Native American Air, Lifestar Ambulance, Payson fire and police departments and the Gila County Sheriff’s Department.

The highlight of the event was the presentation of free bicycle helmets to all kindergartners thanks to a donation from the Arizona Diamondbacks baseball team.

“The school did a survey, and none of the kindergarten kids had helmets,” said Judy Baker, executive director of the Mogollon Health Alliance.
