A few weeks ago when my husband came and told me that Mayor Murphy was on the Phoenix evening news with a domestic violence/alcohol related incident, my heart sank to my toes.
I see Mayor Murphy as a very talented man who sincerely cares about Payson and the challenges Payson town government faces. Mayor Murphy has demonstrated over the years his concern for the betterment of our town through the many hours he has spent working on behalf of the good of Payson.
However, Mayor Murphy has also demonstrated over the last several years that the consumption of alcohol negatively impacts his life and puts him on the front page of the Payson Roundup with some regularity.
Some Payson residents want to pitch our mayor right out of office and others staunchly support the mayor and the talent he brings to his position.
Unfortunately, neither approach is going to solve the current problems. However, I do believe that if every one of the residents of the Payson area who believe in the power of prayer were to lift Mayor Murphy up in their daily prayers, we would see some amazing results. Over the years, I have seen many examples of problems which appeared insurmountable solved in the very best possible way through the prayers of believers.
I challenge each and every one of you to remember Ken Murphy in your daily prayers. Neither you nor I nor the Committee to Recall Mayor Murphy, nor the Citizens for Better Payson Government, can solve the current problem. Prayer can!
Let’s start our “Heavenly Petitioning” today and save Payson the cost, divisiveness and turmoil that a recall election would generate and at the same time help a very caring capable man be an asset to our community now and in the years to come.
