Christmas Food Drive Faces Bare Cupboards

The Community Christmas Food Drive is under way and organizers desperately need the community’s help.

Canned goods are being collected so that the Rim Country Optimist Club can provide a hearty Christmas dinner for families in need.

The Rim Country Mall will be the main holding site during this event, so that you can watch as the canned goods grow.

There are several drop off sites around town: Payson Perk (at the mall), Safeway, Bashas’, Wal-Mart, Country Kitchen Restaurant, Wells Fargo Bank, Payson Police Department and Payson Fire Department (Main Street location).

The Optimists’ aim is to be able to serve at least 400 families this holiday season.

If you are a family in need, applications are currently being accepted through Friday, Dec. 13, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. only, at the DES office located around the corner from Bashas’.

The date for the distribution of the food baskets will be Monday, Dec. 23 at the Rim Country Middle School from 9 a.m. to noon.

The Optimist Club is asking for your contributions to help meet this need. The club usually collects around $5,000 in food supplies; however, so far this year, only $1,500 has been collected. Let’s join together in the true holiday spirit and give from the heart.

Monetary donations are also appreciated.
