Rim Country Couple Hook Bronze At Bass Tournament

Rim country anglers, Bob and Mary Hayn, finished third in the AllStar Bass Team Tournament Dec. 7 at Apache Lake.

The pair weighed in a six-fish limit that tipped the scales at 13.5 pounds. In their catch was a 3.25-pounder.

For the bronze medal finish, the two received $2,300 in prize money.

Their angling strategy included fishing spoons down to 45 feet in the marina area, AllStar spokesman Harry Morgan said.

The only other Gila County team to finish in the top 10 was Chi-Chi and Patty Chavez of Roosevelt. Their limit of 15.45 pounds netted the husband and wife a second-place finish and $2,650. The two fished in-line spinners on steep shores from the marina to the dam, Morgan said. Their largest fish was a 3.35 pound largemouth.

The tournament winners, Steve Foutch of Apache Junction and Thomas Palen of Mesa, weighed in 16.12 pounds and earned $3,000. The champs fished near Burnt Corral and Turtle Island using spoons down to 40 feet.

The tournament’s big fish, a 6.39 pounder, was caught by the team of David Baca of Prescott Valley and Mike White of Tempe.
