Richard Irvin Magness, 67, died Dec. 24, 2002 in Payson. He was born March 28, 1935 in Lead Hill, Ark.
Mr. Magness graduated from Bergman High School in Harrison, Ark. He married Roberta Duncan in 1954. Together they had two children, Sheryl Jean and Carl Richard. They moved to Los Angeles, Calif. in 1957 where Mr. Magness attended and graduated from LIFE Bible College in 1961. Together they pastored the Foresquare Church in Santa Rosa, Calif. and pioneered the Foresquare Church in Wofford Heights, Calif.
Mr. Magness began Magness Construction in 1976 and later formed Castle Builders which he co-owned and operated with his son, Carl, until his retirement in March 2000.
On Nov. 7, 1985 he married Carol Ann Smith. They were married for 17 years. The couple enjoyed traveling and golfing. In May of 2000 they moved from Southern California to Payson where Mr. Magness planned to design and build their home in Chaparral Pines. During this time they enjoyed the fellowship of Mountain Bible Church and the many friends they encountered.
He is survived by wife, Carol; daughter, Sheryl Patterson and her husband, Gene; son, Carl Magness and his wife, Sharon; stepdaughter, Shannon Kavanagh and her husband, Brian; brothers, Reece, Robert and Bruce Magness; sisters, Earlene Richardson and Barbara Webb; seven grandchildren, Kristi, Gene and Luke Patterson, Stephanie and Keith Magness, Jake and Page Kavanagh; five great-grandchildren, Chelsie, Abbie, Alise, Zachery and Zoey.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Earl and Phyllis Magness.

A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 28 at Mountain Bible Church, 302 E. Rancho Road in Payson. Interment will follow at Mountain Meadows Memorial Park in Payson.
