Gertrude E. (Hayden) Baker, 85 of Payson, died, Feb. 15, 2002 in Payson. She was born June 7, 1916 in Omaha, Neb. She visited Rim Resort in Forest Lakes every summer.

Mrs. Baker's maiden name was Wranischar. She lived in Parker when the Parker Dam was being built and she lived at Lake Pleasant when the Carl Pleasant Dam was being built. She finished grade school in Phoenix and graduated from Phoenix Union High School. She married Carl Hayden on June 17, 1938 and they were later divorced. She then married Lyle Baker. She lived in Sunnyslope, California, Snowflake and Payson. She worked at Sunnyslope Elementary School in the cafeteria. She was a receptionist at Mary Lees Beauty Salon in Sunnyslope, CB Beauty Salon in Sunnyslope and at Ernest Your Hair Stylist in Phoenix. She was a member of Zion Mountain View Chapel in Sunnyslope and of Snowflake Baptist Church. She also was a member of Capital City Rebekah Lodge No. 30.

Survivors include one son, LaRue and his wife Audrey Baker of Mesa; two daughters, Carla and her husband Les Gaskill of Payson, and Mary and her husband Frank Henderson of Forest Lakes; two stepsons, Cecil and his wife Lorene Hayden of Kansas and Larry and his wife Junko Baker of California; nine grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her husband Lyle Baker.

Services were held Tuesday, Feb. 19 at Messinger Payson Funeral Home.
