Yet another national discount merchandiser is coming to Payson.
Bealls Outlet which tags its branded apparel, shoes and gifts up to 70 percent off department store prices is scheduled to open its 13th Arizona store in March, when it takes over the 14,400-square-foot Payson Plaza space formerly occupied by Palmer's Furniture at 305 S. Beeline Highway.
Not to be confused with the Bealls department-store chain, Bealls Outlet is a rapidly growing division of Bealls, Inc., an 86-year-old privately-owned company headquartered in Bradenton, Fla., with stores in 11 states. Its merchandise assortment consists of off-price lines, vendor closeouts, and private-label import and domestic buys.
"We're very similar to TJ Maxx and Marshall's and Ross Dress for Less," said Peggy Colburn, divisional vice-president of marketing for Bealls Outlet. "We offer merchandise that gets canceled or is part of a vendor overrun: clothing, shoes, accessories, lingerie, linens, gifts, jewelry, sunglasses ... off-price merchandise for the whole family.
"Arizona has been a very successful market for us," Colburn said, explaining why Payson was selected as a store location. "It was the first state we went into after we began here in Florida. The demographics are very similar to Florida; there are lots of retirees and the same type of weather.
"We expect the Payson store will do as well as we've done all over Arizona."
