In this time of economic uncertainty, the generous nature of citizens is amazing. Rim Country Rotary-Payson conducts a yearly Thanksgiving food drive and then leaves the collection containers in place for the Lioness Christmas food drive.
Jan. 5, the containers were collected and returned to the container sponsor, Darryl's Precision, but to our surprise, at Bashas' and Wal-Mart, there were donations that had still been added to the barrels. An additional 250 pounds of food were collected after the Christmas season.
I'd like to praise those who continued their donations after the holiday season. They evidently recognize that hunger is a year-round problem in the Rim country. The food will be taken to the Saint Vincent DePaul's food bank for distribution to area residents. This will hopefully help in their efforts as they helped the Rotary Club by providing some turkeys during the Thanksgiving food drive.
Paysonites, you provided a blessed service. Thank you.
