Francis J. "Frank" Blatterspiel, 83, of Union Township, died June 22, 2002. He was born Oct. 18, 1918 in Long Island, N.Y. He was the son of the late Francis and Katherine Gobel Blatterspiel.
Mr. Blatterspiel was a longtime resident of Union Township. After retiring he moved to Arizona and lived in Payson for almost nine years. Later he moved back to Union Township.
He served in the Army during World War II as a tank driver with Company A., 610th Tank Destroyer Battalion with Patton's 3rd Army in the Battle of the Bulge. He also served two enlistments with the Flemington National Guard.
He was a life member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6059 and a member of the Veterans of the Battle of the Bulge.
Mr. Blatterspiel was a heavy equipment operator for the State of New Jersey Department of Transportation in Bloomsbury, N.J. Before that, he was a welder for the F. L. Smidth Company in Lebanon, N.J., and worked for the Lehigh Valley Railroad for five years.
Survivors include his wife, Cora; daughter, Rheta Spinks and husband, Edward, of Hampton, N.J.; son, Ralph Blatterspiel and wife, Carol, of Payson; grandson, Eric of Bloomsbury, N.J.; granddaughter, Katy of New Hope, Pa.; and two great-grandchildren.
The family will announce a memorial service at a later date. Burial will be private.
