A foursome of Phoenix-area 35-years-and-over men's soccer teams will soon lock horns with the Payson Football Club in the Rim Country Independence Day tournament.
The tournament will be contested Friday through Sunday on the two Rumsey Park multipurpose fields.
Teams participating include Sand Dragons, Mirage, Hardrockers, Incinerators, X Team and Payson.
In the round-robin format, a win is worth six points, a tie counts three points and one point is awarded for chalking up a shut out.
Team points over the course of the tournament will be tallied to seed the teams into two final showdowns to be played Sunday.
At 2 p.m. on the North Rumsey field, the No. 1 point-producing team takes on No. 2.
At 12:30 p.m., No. 3 in the tournament point standings challenges No. 4, also on the north field.
Payson opens tournament play at 8 p.m. Friday against Mirage on the Rumsey North field.
Other Payson games Saturday are slated for 8 a.m. (vs. Sand Dragons on Rumsey North), 12:30 p.m. (vs. Hardrockers on Rumsey South) and at 3:30 p.m. (vs. Incinerators on Rumsey North).
Sunday, Payson plays X Team at 9:30 a.m. on Rumsey North.
Spectators are welcome and there is no admission charge.
