The Payson Men's 35-years-and-older soccer team turned in its best effort ever on the holiday tournament circuit finishing third in the six-team Rim Country Independence Day Invitational.
At the conclusion of two days of round robin action on the two multipurpose fields at Rumsey Park, Payson stood alone in fourth place.
The format called for tournament finals in which the first- and second-place finishers challenge each other, while the third-place team challenges the fourth.
In the battle for the bronze medal, Payson whipped The X team 3-0.
In the championship showdown, the first-place finishing Incinerators defeated second-place Mirage 2-0.
The Incinerators are no strangers in Rim country soccer circles.
"This is the third year in a row they have won the tournament," local team member and tournament director, Lee Woods said.
Payson tournament efforts were led by a pair new to the team Arturo Panama and Efren Arguello.
"Each scored three goals which accounted for six of the 11 goals we scored in the tournament," Woods said.
"It was a wonderful success," Woods said.
Next up for the local team is a Labor Day tournament Aug. 30 to Sept. 1 on the Rumsey fields.
