For the past week, Arizona Diamondback Training Center coaches have been putting 35 aspiring Rim country baseball players through their world championship paces.

Each weekday morning on the Payson High School baseball and softball field, the coaches teach the campers, ages 7 to 12, the fundamentals of hitting, fielding, throwing, base-running and specific position play.

The coaches also instruct the youngsters in proper on-the-field etiquette, rules of the game and strategy.

On hand representing the Diamondbacks is training center head coach Mike Campbell and assistants Preston Sharp, Scott Collins and Sean Payton.

At Wednesday morning's session, the coaches took turns detailing the nuances of both pitching and catching. Later, the youngsters rotated through stations which included batting tees and whiffle balls.

In addition to the training sessions, the youngsters received a Diamondbacks T-shirt, cap, bat bag and two tickets to an Arizona home game.

The camp is the third consecutive one that the Diamondbacks have held in Payson.
