Each summer, the Payson Women's Golf Association sponsors its highly popular Memorial Tournament.
"It's to honor members no longer with us," longtime PWGA member Alesha Calderwood said.
Played July 23 in a best-ball format, Brenda Baker and Calderwood entered the fray as the defending champions, finishing with a 58 last year.
This time out, the pair defended their hard-earned crown, finishing with a 56.
Glenda Cook and Sharon Vaplon were hot on the heels of the two-time champs with a 58. Joyce Goff and Ruth Overton finished third with a 62.
The battle for fourth ended in a tie between the teams of Kay Davis and Joyce Karnes, and Judy Neal and Wilma Smith. Both tallied 63.
The individual highlight of the tournament turned out to be Karnes' 65-yard chip-in eagle on No. 15.
"It was a great shot ," Calderwood said.
Closest-to-the-pin prize winners included PWGA veteran Marge Landra (No. 5) and Vaplon (#17).
PWGA members return to action today (Tuesday) at Payson Golf Course. Tee time is 9 a.m.
