Payson Youth Football officials are gearing up for what they anticipate will be a banner season.
Competing in the Central Arizona Youth Football Association along with teams from Prescott, Camp Verde, Wickenburg and Sedona, the Payson association will field eight teams in three age/weight classifications.
In the Mighty Mite (6- to 8-year-olds) division, Payson will enter the Bucks, Jags and Bears teams. The Cowboys, Titans and Cardinals will represent Payson in the Minor (8- to 10-year-olds) classification. In the Major division (10- to 13-year-olds) Payson will field the Eagles and the Raiders.
But before league officials can begin thinking about Xs and Os, they must take care of player registration. The first of two summer sign-ups are from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. tomorrow (Saturday) at the Payson Police Department. The registration fee is $70 per player and $60 for cheerleaders. Families with more than one child participating in the program are eligible for discounts.
Also, all players must bring a copy of their birth certificate to registration.
A final registration will be from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. July 13 on the old multi-purpose field at Rumsey Park.
Practices for all teams will begin July 29 at Rumsey Park.
Although the schedules have not been finalized, Payson will host postseason play in October.
