Following a full month of links play, members of the Payson Women's Golf Association nine-hole group are gearing up for their annual four-week state Medallion tournament.
The 2002 season for the Lady Niners teed off May 2 in an "even holes" formatted tournament. June Patterson edged out runner-up and club president Pam Mitchell for the crown. Rose Devar and Sue Covert tied for third.
May 9 in a low-net tournament, Norma Fallers and Ardie Poole dead-knotted for first; Devar was second.
In a "pick the six best holes" tournament May 16, Jean Johnson played her way to first place. Mary Nolan and Fallers tied for second.
In a low-net fray May 23, Johnson again won top honors. Covert was runner-up. Third-place went to Jane Patterson who also pocketed closest-to-the-pin prize money on No. 14.
Links play May 30 was a low-net tournament that was won by Mary Gene Mueller. Johnson finished second by edging past Fran Strumpfer and Mitchell who tied for third.
