A Rare Sighting

With the closure of the forest, local astronomy enthusiasts and curious onlookers gathered at Green Valley Park Monday to witness a 72-percent solar eclipse.

The eclipse occurred when the moon passed between the earth and the sun and reached its peak at about 6:20 p.m., causing a slight dimming in the sky.

Rim country residents enjoyed one of the best viewing positions in the nation for this type of solar eclipse, which won't be as visible again until 2012.
