Golfers Play Well At Verde Santa Fe

Payson Men's Golf Association members John Pauley, John Peel and Jim Furmisky played their way to low-gross championships at an interclub tournament June 12 at Verde Santa Fe Country Club.

Participating in the three-way links shoot-out were members representing Payson, Prescott and Verde Santa Fe men's clubs.

With a sizzling 74, Pauley captured the gold medal in the first flight. Peel's 94 was good enough to win the second flight and Furmisky captured the third with a 93.

In low-net scoring, Dick Harding carded a 64 to win first flight honors. Frank Szakal was second with a 66.

Victor Kostecki won second flight honors with a 72; Tom Mallett was runner-up with a 74.

In the third flight, Doug Talbot outdueled silver medalist Don Nicholas for honors. Talbot finished at 70 and Nicholas tallied a 71.

Next up for members of the Payson Men's Golf Association is a modified best-ball tournament June 26 at Payson Golf Course. June 28, the association will host a mixed tournament.
