The highly popular summer youth recreation program is now without a home.
Housed in the Rim Country Middle School gym since its inception over a decade ago, the program had to be terminated Monday because the facility is being used as an emergency evacuation center for those fleeing the Rodeo-Chediski fires.
Evacuees from the Overgaard, Heber and Forest Lakes areas are being housed in the RCMS gymnasium.
According to town recreational sports coordinator Teddy Pettet, the summer program will remain closed for an indefinite period.
"When this (forest fire evacuation) is cleared up, we'll look into opening it back up," Pettet said.
Employees of the parks and recreation department will continue to supervise the gymnasium because the sports and recreation equipment is now a popular attraction for the children of the evacuees, Pettet said.
The program supervisors this summer are Will Dunman, Ky Bradley and Cassidy Haught.
