For the third consecutive year, the Arizona Diamondbacks Training Centers will be in Payson to teach the fundamentals of baseball to aspiring young players.
The camp will be July 8 to 12 on the Payson High School baseball field. From 8 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., sessions will be held for youngsters 7 to 10 years old. From 1 p.m. to 4:30 p.m., a camp will be held for players 11 to 15 years old.
According to Training Center Director Jeff Rodin, the camp curriculums are matched to the age and skill level of the student.
The curriculums are also endorsed by the Diamondbacks baseball staff, Rodin said.
Instructors are hand-picked by the organization to teach the fundamentals of hitting, fielding, throwing and base-running as well as specific position play, Rodin said.
Registration is $150, which includes a Diamondbacks Training Centers T-shirt, cap, bat bag and two tickets to a Diamondbacks home game. Proceeds from the Training Centers benefit the Arizona Diamondbacks Charities Youth Baseball/ Softball Fund.
The past two years, the camps have proven to be highly popular among local youth. The camps also have drawn youngsters from the Valley eager to get out of the searing desert heat.
Due to the camp's popularity and because camp sizes are limited, Rodin is urging prospective campers to register as soon as possible.
