Officer Should Have At Least Apologized

In regard to the Roundup article about Mary Shelley losing her son when his car was struck by a DPS Officer in pursuit: How sad that her son died at the hands of an overzealous DPS officer disregarding orders.

It's amazing that officer Valdez was hired with his prior record in New Mexico.

I have to agree with DPS District Commander Larry Scarber that this incident is more of a "following the policy problem."

It seems easy to focus on policy change instead of the lack of integrity of the officer and his incapacity to apologize or even show remorse.

It's hard for me to understand how a person like Valdez cannot see the damage caused by his actions.

God bless Ms. Shelley in her pursuit to achieve justice.
