Thank you to the Roundup and Fire Marshal Babb for the excellent article, "Fire safety begins at home."
One other suggestion that was noticeably missing was keeping your chimney clean. When I was a child I remember seeing a flaming ball roll from a chimney and burning shingles as it went. I'll always remember it, even if it has been a lot of years.
