William H. Overton, 77, of Payson, died March 22, 2002, in Payson. He was born May 18, 1924, in Kansas City, Mo.
Mr. Overton was a Navy pilot in the experimental Squad 200 in World War II. After the war, he graduated from William Jewell College in Liberty, Mo. He worked for 26 years at Hayes Drilling Company of Kansas City before retiring in 1988 as vice-president of sales and estimating.
Overton was president of the Payson Senior Center for the past 12 years, and worked on numerous committees including the hospital foundation, the Mogollon Health Alliance and Main Street Redevelopment. He was also a member of the Payson Methodist Church.
He is survived by his wife, Ruth, of Payson; three brothers, Ed Overton and Dick Overton of Florida, and Jerry Overton of Arizona; two daughters, Sheri Overton of Oklahoma, and Vicki Ray of Colorado; five grandchildren, Kate and Aaron Searcy and Brian, McKenzie and Casey Ray.
A memorial celebration will be held at 3 p.m. Tuesday, March 26 at the Payson Methodist Church. The family will receive friends after the services.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the Payson Senior Center or RTA Hospice.
