There will be a debate after all.
The four candidates left standing after the town's primary election have agreed to participate in a debate at 7 p.m. Friday, May 10, in the Payson High School Auditorium.
The event, co-sponsored by the Payson Roundup and Library Friends, will last 90 minutes with the time divided equally between the mayoral race and the council race.
Jim White and Ken Murphy are the finalists for mayor, and Kenny Knapp and Robert Henley are the council opponents.
White led Murphy 1,660 to 1,316 in the primary, while Knapp, who received 1,808 votes, was just 29 short of the majority he needed to avoid a run-off.
Questions for the debate will be selected by a panel comprised of personnel from the Roundup and Library Friends. Residents are encouraged to drop off questions they want considered at the Roundup.
Candidates will make opening statements and will be allowed to ask one question of their opponent.
The election is Tuesday, May 21.
