1,500 People Visit Pal Show


Fine arts and fine crafts were a big draw in Payson this weekend. About 600 people attended the Friday night preview of the annual Spring Fine Art and Fine Craft Show and Sale hosted by the Payson Art League.

The show had about 1,500 visitors during its May 10-12 run, Jan Hodson, president of PAL, said.

The big auction, with works donated by the artists, netted about $1,200 for Payson Area School Art Programs and other Community Art Projects, Barb Bourscheidt, publicity chairman, said.

There were 35 artists in the show; 15 of them won awards.

Winning awards for their two-dimensional work were: Rock Newcomb, first and People's Choice; Pamela Webb, second; Carol Kemp, third; Angela Cockle, Annelle Henson and Seena Ritchie, honorable mentions.

Sculpture awards went to: C.D. Bond, first place; Jim Garrity, second; and Jay Kemp, third.

Artists awarded for their pottery and glass work were: Pia Wolfe, first; Alan Snyder, second; and Norma Hanscom, third.

Winning awards for fine crafts were: Patricia Allebrand, first; John Finkey, second; and Russell Henderson, third.

Judges for the show were Kathy Krieger and Cyrille LeBlanc.

The PAL will present its fall show Nov. 1, 2 and 3.
