Payson To Host Youth Football Playoffs

Payson Youth football hosts the Central Arizona Youth Football Championships tomorrow (Saturday) at Payson High School field and Rumsey Park.

The championship round kicks off at 11:30 a.m. on Longhorn field with the Chino Valley Titans taking on the Cottonwood Marauders.

The CAYFA Mighty Mite Division title is at stake in the gridiron skirmish.

At 1 p.m. on PHS field, the Wickenburg Wranglers and Camp Verde Vipers clash for the Minor Division championship.

The day wraps at 3 p.m. with the undefeated Payson Raiders playing host to the Camp Verde Bulldogs. The winner will be crowned the champion of the CAYFA Major Division.

On the new Rumsey Park artificial surface field, six CAYFA teams will battle for third and fourth place.

At 11:30 a.m., the Payson Buccaneers and the Cottonwood Seahawks vie for the Mighty Mite bronze medal.

Immediately following, about 1 p.m. the Payson Cowboys and Cottonwood Titans lock horns in a Minor Division showdown.

The Major Division winner will be decided at 3 p.m. when the Wickenburg Wranglers and Chino Valley Trojans take to the Rumsey field.

CAYFA cheer competition begins at 9 a.m. in Wilson Dome. Admission is $1.

The first round of the CAYFA playoffs were Nov. 2 in Walkup Skydome on the campus of Northern Arizona University in Flagstaff.

In the Mighty Mites opener, the Payson Buccaneers whipped the Payson Bears 14-0.

The most exciting game of the day turned out to be the Minor Division playoff game between the Cottonwood Titans and the Payson Titans. In three overtime periods, Cottonwood finally emerged victorious 6-0.

In the Minor Division first-rounder, the Payson Cowboys slipped past the Bagdad Razorbacks 12-8.

The major playoff game saw the Payson Raiders run roughshod over the Payson Eagles 33-6.
