The town of Payson now has its own live Christmas tree safely ensconced in the ground at Green Valley Park.
The 18-foot Arizona white fir, trucked from Colorado to Payson last week, will become a permanent part of the Main Street Christmas festivities.
“We started the Christmas tree lighting tradition last Christmas with the first annual Electric Light Parade,” Main Street Project Manager Karen Greenspoon said. “But last year’s cut tree toppled over in the wind several times, prompting the idea of a permanent town tree that could withstand the elements and bring joy to the town for many years to come.”
Funded by the town water department and private contributions, the tree will come alive with lights, Dec. 7, following the parade, which begins at 6 p.m.
