The investigation into the actions of Mayor Ken Murphy during rodeo weekend will take about another month.
Payson Police Chief Gordon Gartner's report on the matter stated that Murphy could face charges of disorderly conduct and possibly assault for a confrontation with Payson Fire Marshal Jack Babb over the occupancy levels at the Ox Bow Saloon.
Gartner submitted the police department's initial interviews and reports on the incident to the Department of Public Safety Special Investigations Unit in late August.
DPS started its investigation in late September.
Gartner told the Roundup he had spoken with the detectives in the Special Investigations Unit about two weeks ago and at that time, they were conducting interviews with witnesses to the incident between the mayor and fire marshal. The police report included statements from about half-a-dozen witnesses.
Last week, a spokesman for the unit told the Roundup it would take another month before the investigation would be completed.
Once the investigation is finished, a report will be submitted to the county attorney. The report will include a recommendation on whether charges should be filed, Gartner said.
The police will be given a copy of the report as well.
