Wilburn O. Dodge, Sr., 81, died Aug. 28, 2002, in Portales, N.M. He was born July 16, 1921, in Arkansas to Mattie Ruth and Luther Edward Dodge.
Mr. Dodge grew up in Arkansas. During World War II, he was a radio operator in the Army Air Corps. When the war ended, he attended Arkansas Tech.
Feb. 17, 1949, he married Albertina Tucker. The family moved to Phoenix in 1950, where he worked as an insurance salesman. He eventually completed his college degree and earned a teaching certificate. In 1967, the family moved to Young where he taught business classes at the local high school for 17 years before retiring in 1984. He and his wife were members of Young Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Albertina Dodge of Portales, N.M.; two sons, Wilburn O. Dodge, Jr. of Glendale, and David Dodge of Lamont, Iowa; three daughters, Karen Rabhi of Anaheim, Calif., Deborah Martin of Covington, Seattle, Wash., and Brenda Dean of Portales, N.M.; 11 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Sept. 6 at Young Baptist Church in Young.
