The 17th Annual Christmas for Kids Golf Tournament will be held Sept. 20 and 21 at the Payson Golf Course. The event is sponsored by the Payson Police Department, the Gila County Sheriff's Office and the Department of Public Safety as a fund-raiser to purchase clothing and toys for needy children in northern Gila County at Christmastime. Last year, more than 250 area children were given a brighter Christmas as a result of the event.
This year's event will kick off with the Law Enforcement Wheel of Mis-Fortune at 6 p.m. Friday, Sept. 20 at the Payson Golf Course clubhouse. Door prizes are given to all in attendance, so this is an opportunity for businesses and individuals to show their support for this charity by donating any type of door prize.
The golf tournament begins the following morning with 18 holes of four-man best ball. The event is polished off with a free deep-pit barbecue and beans dinner prepared by the Albert Hunt and Roy Creach families.
To enter the tournament, find three golfers for your team, then come to the Friday night festivities and spin the wheel for a law enforcement officer to complete your foursome. Starting price is $150, and an additional $80 covers your teams' golf cart and greens fees. Donations and entry fees are 100% tax deductible.
To enter the tournament or donate a door prize, call any of the following: Payson Police at (928) 474-5177, Gila County Sheriff at (928) 474-2208 or Department of Public Safety at (928) 474-2606.
