Members of the Payson Women's Golf Association 9-hole group spent the past two months locking horns in a variety of weekly tournaments held at Payson Golf Course.
Aug. 25, the group competed in a low-gross formatted tournament won by Fran Strumpfer. Joan Johnson was second and Sue Covert third.
In a "change the worst three holes to par" fray Aug. 22, Strumpfer again won top honors. Mary Nolan finished second and Johnson copped a third.
Aug. 15, the Lady Niners engaged in a low-net match won by Joan Kurchguessner. Johnson finished second and Strumpfer took bronze.
In a low-net "guess your own score" competition held July 25, Mary Alice Haithcock was first and Kurchguessner second. Mary Gene Mueller nailed down third.
On July 18 in a low-net tournament, Johnson played her way to the title over silver medalist Strumpfer and third-place finishing Mueller.
In a "best six holes with one-half handicap" tournament July 6, Jane Patterson, Jolene Matych and Johnson finished one, two and three.
