Lucy Mildred Bell, 93, of Payson, died Sept. 14, 2002. She was born June 18, 1909 in McPerson County, S.D. to Elmer and Goldie Howell.
She lived for a brief period in Colorado, but lived most of her life in South Dakota. In 1985, she moved to Rapid City, S.D. to live with her daughter, Ina Kaul. In 1992, she moved to Payson to live with her daughter, Irene Schwartzbauer.
A housewife and mother, she was a longtime member of the Order of the Eastern Star. Her hobbies were her "fancy work," embroidery, crochet, quilting and doing word puzzles.
She is survived by her brother Clyde Howell; daughters, Irene Schwartzbauer of Payson, and Darlene Mehlhoff of Leola, S.D.; sons, Thomas E. Bell of Hunters, Wash., and Francis O. Bell of Missoula, Mont.; 22 grandchildren, 47 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Glen O. Bell in 1984; two brothers; two sisters; daughter, Ina Kaul; and grandson, Larry Kaul.
A funeral/memorial service will be held at 4 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 17 at Messinger Payson Funeral Home. Final services and interment will be held in Leola, S.D.
