Lupe Amavisca Gil, 67, of Payson, died Sept. 16, 2002. She was born April 10, 1935 in Yuma.
Mrs. Gil attended schools in Yuma, graduating from Yuma High School in 1953. She attended Northern Arizona University in Flagstaff.
A longtime resident of Yuma, Gil was actively involved in the two Catholic Parishes there Immaculate Conception Church and St. Francis Church. An Arizona native, Mrs. Gil was employed by and retired from Catholic Community Service of Yuma.
In 1996 she was honored as employee of the year, receiving the Silver Certificate Award. She was also active in the Yuma Crisis Intervention program.
Fluent in sign language, Mrs. Gil volunteered her time in the Yuma schools assisting the hearing impaired. Her love of family, work and spirit of volunteerism was strong.
Survivors include her husband, Trinidad H. Gil of Payson and Yuma; mother, Lucy Amavisca of Yuma; daughters, Luann Gil Carpino and husband, John, of Payson, and Theresa J. Gil of Phoenix; son, Joseph Raymond Gil and wife, Lisa, of Gallitzin, Pa.; sister, Rachel Crawford of Yuma; brothers, Robert Amavisca and wife, Lucy, of Glendale, and George Amavisca and wife, Alicia, of Yuma; grandchildren, Matthew Carpino of Carlsbad, Calif., Nicholas, Jessalyn and Jared Carpino of Payson, Alexis and Alayna Gil of Gallitzin, Pa., and Christopher Gil of Kent, Wash.; numerous cousins, nephews and nieces.
She was preceded in death by her father, Joseph Amavisca; and infant granddaughter, Michaela Anne Gil.
Services will be held in Yuma.
