New Baby, New Boat All In Same Week

It was a week that Clifford Pirch will most likely never forget.

Only seven days after his wife Alicia gave birth to the couple's first child, Pirch was awarded a new $23,000 Javelin Stratos bass boat for winning the 2002 AllStar Bass Super Couple championship at Lake Pleasant.

"It was pretty exciting," said Pirch who is a local fishing guide, professional tournament angler and Payson Roundup columnist.

The newborn, Kailee Grace, went along with mom and dad to pick up the keys to the fishing boat.

But in the couples tournament Sept. 13 and 14, Pirch had to fish alone. His wife and fishing partner was looking after the baby.

Fishing Yamamoto jigs and grubs and Castaic soft jerkbaits near secondary points on the north end of the lake, Pirch weighed in a six-fish limit both days of the tournament.

The first day, his catch tipped the scales at 13.57 pounds.

On the second day, he caught 12.01 pounds.

His two-day total of 25.58 pounds was more than five pounds heavier than the catch of the tournament runner-up couple Pam and John Walker of Peoria.

Pirch is sponsored by Intermountain West, Payson Sawcut, Yamamoto Custom Baits and Castaic Baits.

The first event of the 2003 AllStar Bass couples circuit is Nov. 2 at Lake Pleasant. Call (480) 894-2775 for more information.
