Old Time Fiddlers Contest

Arizona fiddlers and musicians will set your toes tapping and your hands clapping on Sept. 28 and 29 at the Payson Event Center as young and old compete for the Arizona championship titles. Enjoy storytellers, fiddle making demonstration, folk dancers, arts and crafts, food booths, and gospel music. Gates open each day at 9 a.m. Admission is $5 for adults and $2 for children ages 6-16. This 32nd annual Old Time Fiddlers Contest is sponsored by the Payson Parks and Recreation Department. For more information call 928-474-5242 x 7.

Explore Kartchner Caverns

Experience one of Arizona's most unusual state parks. Tour a living limestone cave featuring dynamic structures such as stalactites, stalagmites, and other unusual formations. This day trip will take place Dec. 3, 2002. The cost is $43 per person, which includes the motorcoach and park entrance fee. Registration is currently being accepted at the Parks and Rec office until Nov. 2, 2002. Tour is limited to 46 participants so sign up now only 20 seats left,

Broadway Musical: The Producers

This Tony Award-winning musical is sure to leave you delirious with laughter. The price is $47 per person, which includes the motorcoach fare and show ticket. Registration is currently being accepted at the Parks and Recreation office. Seats are limited to 48 participants and are assigned on a first come, first served basis. This day trip will take place Sunday, Jan. 19, 2003, departing at approximately 11 a.m. Show will take place at Gammage Auditorium in Tempe. Registration deadline is Dec. 6, 2002. Only 6 seats left.

Trunk-or-Treat Volunteers Wanted

The plans have begun for this year's Trunk-or-Treat. This program gives local youth a fun and safe place to trick-or-treat. This event will be held at the Payson Event Center Oct. 26 from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. If you wish to participate, you and other costumed volunteers will decorate your vehicle and hand out candy provided by the Parks and Recreation office. Participants are eligible for prizes for the best costume and the best decorated vehicle. Only 10 spots left. If you would like to be a part of this event, please call to reserve your space today at 474-5242 ext. 272.

  • ** Due to the extreme fire danger, charcoal, wood fires, candles, and open flames of any kind are prohibited within the Payson Parks system. Anyone wishing to cook food in the park should use a gas grill.
