Payson residents Gina Perkes and her grandmother, Arleen Logan won a number of awards at the Arizona Quilters Guild "Silver Jubilee" annual quilt show in Phoenix recently, including two of the top honors.

Perkes won a top award for Exemplary Machine Quilting for her black and pink "Locomotion" piece, and Logan won the Judges Choice award with her quilt "With All Our Hearts," which was also quilted by Perkes. The "Hearts" quilt, which was inspired by a picture in an Australian quilting magazine, also won second place in the Team Bed Quilts division.

Perkes also took two second place awards in the Team Wall Quilt category, one for quilting Susan Williams' "Caves of Lasceaux" and the other for quilting Logan's "Sew Much Fun!" which includes "stick kids" with yarn and thread hair, and embroidered motifs.

Logan also took first place in the Wall Quilts Pictorial competition with her "Logan's Lair," where she transferred a photo of her house onto fabric and incorporated it into a landscape quilt. Logan's "Pixie Dust" wall quilt also won third place in the Studio quilt category.

Both Perkes and Logan are members of Payson's Shoofly Quilters, a chapter of the Arizona Quilters Guild. For more information about the AQG, call 602-220-9889 or visit www.ArizonaQuiltersGuild.org.
