The Young Man and Young Woman of the year were selected by a committee of Payson High School teachers based on a number of criteria, including academic achievement and volunteer work.

Young Man of the Year

Payson High School students Lisa Jackson and Dillon Davis are the Payson Roundup's Young Man and Young Woman of the Year. They were selected by a panel of high school teachers based on both academic achievement and participation in extracurricular activities.

Dillon Davis

Senior Dillon Davis carries a 4.2 grade point average which places him in the top 5 percent of the Class of 2003.

Among the numerous awards Dillon has won are the Rotary Scholastic Achievement Award, Kiwanis Most Improved Student Award, Principal's Award for Excellence, Principal's Honor Roll, Honor Student Award, Academic Excellence in English and Academic Excellence in Technology. He is also CompTIA A+ certified in Operating System Technologies and Core Hardware.

Davis is involved in youth service projects and is the first assistant to the bishop and a member of the Bishop's Youth Council at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

"Dillon is just an excellent, excellent young man," Assistant Principal Dan Maher said. "I just love him to death. He does everything right and gets perfect grades."

Young Woman of the Year

Lisa Michelle Jackson

Senior Lisa Jackson, who will graduate with a 4.0-plus grade point average, plans to go to college at an eastern university and study economics or business.

She has been involved with student government, the Girl Scouts, is chapter president of the National Honor Society, plays violin in the orchestra, sings in the Advanced Modern Choir, and is a member of the girl's volleyball team, the girl's basketball team, and the Wrestlerettes. She has also had major roles in the last three school musicals, playing Maria in "The Sound of Music," Grandma Tzeitel in "Fiddler on the Roof," and Vi Moore in "Footloose."

Jackson is a student member of the Payson Planning and Zoning Commission, an altar server at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, and has done many volunteer activities through the Girl Scouts.

"My contacts with Lisa are through the office," Assistant Principal Dan Maher said. "She's a TA for us in the attendance office and she just does a great job for us. She is a very well-rounded student who excels at just about everything she does."
