Myrl Pyle Evans, 101, was Payson's oldest native. She died at her daughter's home in New River April 11, 2003.
She was born at Bonita Creek July 17, 1901, to Elwood and Sarah Pyle. She grew up working on the ranch. Her favorite pastimes were dancing, fishing and caring for her animals.
She married Claud Evans Oct. 3, 1923. They lived on various ranches in the Flagstaff, Cottonwood and Kingman areas before settling down on the T-Up-T-Down ranch at New River for 25 years. After selling the ranch, they moved to Phoenix where Mr. Evans was the Secretary of the Livestock Sanitary Board. After retiring, they moved to the senior apartments in Payson so Myrl could be with her twin sister Myrth Jones.
In 1989, she moved to New River to live with her daughter, June Wall.
Mrs. Evans is survived by two children, six grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, six great-great grandchildren, and many other relatives and friends.
Services will be graveside at 1 p.m. Wednesday, April 16, at the Pioneer Cemetery in Payson.
